Mining

Underground, every spark is a hazard. Cooling sensitive analytical systems without an A/C motor took a different kind of engineering. Here's a file from the field.

Climate-Controlled Underground Rackmounts

Mining · Underground
Application

Climate controlled rackmounted cases to enclose a series of analytical data systems used by a leading international mining firm.

The Challenge

Conventional air conditioning systems in underground mining environments pose explosion risks, because A/C motors can generate sparks in subterranean settings.

The Solution

Impact Cases engineered specialized rackmount enclosures featuring A/C inlet and outlet ports connected to the mine's existing fresh air infrastructure via flexible hoses. This design circulates fresh air continuously without requiring a motor-driven cooling system.

Defining Features
  • Retractable baffles tie into mine fresh-air system
  • Reduced shipping complexity
  • Cable boot with hinged cover
Benefits

The mining company gained the ability to transport climate-controlled Impact cases to remote underground locations and deploy analytical systems safely, eliminating concerns about equipment overheating or potential explosions.
