EMI Shielding

For applications where sensitive electronics can't afford interference — defence communications, broadcast signal chains, mission-critical instrumentation — a standard enclosure isn't enough. Every case we build for EMI-sensitive applications goes through a dedicated shielding process, engineered and verified at each stage to guarantee a continuous, low-impedance conductive path around the entire enclosure.

What Sets Our EMI-Rated Cases Apart
  1. 01

    Rivnut-mounted hardware, not standard rivets.

Latching hardware is installed using a Rivnut assembly process instead of standard mounting rivets, creating a tighter, more reliable seal at every fastening point.

  2. 02

    Reinforced latching for even compression.

Extra latching points are added so the lid presses down evenly against the body across its full perimeter — uneven pressure is one of the most common causes of EMI seal failure.

  3. 03

    Custom EMI gasketing.

In place of a standard weather gasket, we fit purpose-made EMI gasket cord. Cases with a Dual Channel Valance design can run a doubled-up layer of gasketing for even greater attenuation.

  4. 04

    Conductive Alodine coating.

Internal surfaces are treated with Alodine (a clear or gold chromate conversion coating, available in hexavalent or trivalent chromium) before powder coating. Powder coat is an electrical insulator, so this step — combined with precise masking — keeps the interior conductive instead of letting the paint break the shielding path.

  5. 05

Precision masking at the lid-to-body seam.

The mating surface between lid and body is masked off before powder coating so that, once latched closed, metal meets metal — maintaining a continuous conductive seal exactly where it matters most.

  6. 06

    100% welded, leak-checked enclosures.

Every rack enclosure is fully welded and inspected for pinholes or leak paths before Alodine coating is applied, confirming the shell is completely sealed in every critical area.

  7. 07

Shielded hardware, not just shielded panels.

Handle backing plates and delta tie-down plates are Alodine-treated and gasketed on the interior face, closing off potential leak points at hardware penetrations. Multiple configurations are available depending on case design.

  8. 08

Conductive rack frame and mounting hardware.

The rack frame and all internal mounting brackets are Alodine coated as well, so the shielding integrity extends through the entire internal structure — not just the outer shell.

RFI Integrity

The level of shielding we have offered in the past is no less than 40dB at frequencies from 8 GHz to 12 GHz. Other applications we have designed and built for achieved 60dB from 150kHz to 18GHz (Min shielding requirement).
